Napier News: May 2018

Welcome to the May edition of the Napier News. The cool weather has finally started to settle in! We have switched on our heating system which can now be managed in each room individually. This will also keep the common areas warm and ensure that everyone is comfortable in the lead up to winter.

As always, we’ve had a lot going on over the last month! Firstly, we’ve had three performer visit, with their entertaining array of genres, styles and song choices. There is something for everyone! Flashback duo wowed us with their quirky costumes and fun performance and David D gave something different with his energy and rock and roll style! Lastly, Cindy Dean, who visits us regularly, entertained with her classic tunes especially for Mother’s Day! We also had Paul Lucas from “Arm Chair Travels” visit the facility and take us on a “South Pacific Cruise”! We always enjoy seeing the amazing photos Paul has taken, it feels like you’re really there!

Easter at Napier street was fun! We would like to thank the Port Phillip Lions Club who donated chocolate bunnies for each resident (there was even some left over for staff). The lifestyle team also put together little gift bags with chocolate eggs. We had the usual Hot Cross Buns for breakfast on Good Friday and a traditional Sunday roast on Easter Sunday! The facility was also decorated with Easter themed decorations!

We held an ANZAC day remembrance ceremony on the 25th of April. We remembered those who have served or are serving in wars to protect our country. We then listened to a lovely rendition of Amazing Grace and had a minute silence to remember those who have fallen, protecting our beautiful country.

We have a new addition to our dining room. A vending machine! This machine is able to be used by residents, visitors and staff. The trail will be used to see how the system works best and whether the area and good inside the machine are appropriate. Suggestions for snacks to be placed inside the machine are welcome.

We started our Chairobics classes on Thursday mornings. This will be replacing regular Gentle Exercises on this day. So far, response to the change has been good! We all enjoy dancing to the beat and getting our blood pumping! The fast paces music with strong beats help pass the time during exercises. It doesn’t even feel like you’re exercising! To conclude the session, we listened to some music specifically used to aid relaxation and help everyone wind down from the fast-paced exercise session. We are welcoming song and dance move suggestions! Come down and get moving!

We have a new Volunteer, Alex, who will be coming in on Tuesday mornings to do manicures in resident’s rooms. This will be facilitated by Nail Painting session, run by Tuva. If you would like your nails done, please let Evangeline know so she can put you on Alex’s list.
